Shirley Anne Books, 72, of Flat Rock,
passed away at her residence Friday Dec. 5, 2003.
She was born July 18, 1931 in Mishawaka and
has lived in Flat Rock since 1991. She was the daughter of the
late John Harris Hambright and Loretta Bickel
Hambright. She was preceded in death by a brother Robert F.
Hambright. She was a member of Joseph McDowell Chapter of
Daughters of the American Revolution, Pardee Hospital Auxiliary,
Hendersonsville Country Club and Mishawaka High School
Association. She was active at all levels of the Presbyterian
Church for over 50 in her local church, Detroit Presbytery (16
years), Synod of the Covenant and General Assembly. She served as
elder or member of various church boarbds and committees. She was
awarded the Presbyterian Women Honorary Lifetime Membership. She
was a member of the First Presbyterian Chuch in Hendersonville.
She is survived by her loving husband of 51
years, Thomas R. Books; a daughter Margaret Voigt and her
husband Kenneth of Belleville, Mich.; two sons, Martin Books and
his wife Theresa of Columbus, Ind., and Michael Books and his
wife Theresa, of Tecumseh, Mich.; five grandchildren; a
great-grandson; and a sister-in-law, Ruth M. Schlegel of
Anniston, Ala.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 Friday at
the First Presbyterian Church in Hendersonville. In lieu of
flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the
Four Seasons Hospice in Hendersonville, or the First Presbyterian
Church.
Editor: Internment was to be at a later date
in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger. She was married to
Thomas R. Books at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka on
12-29-1951.
