SOUTH BEND - Mary D. Bonnell, 86, of Southfield Village,
South Bend, formerly of The Waterford, Mishawaka, passed away
Friday afternoon in Southfield Village. Mary retired from
Uniroyal Corporation, Mishawaka, as an executive secretary for
over 30 years. She was born November 1, 1921, in South Bend, to
Gesidio and Filomena (Carravaggio) Merlo, who
preceded her in death.
On February 1, 1964, in Our Lady of Hungary
Church, she married Warren Bailey, who died October 23,
1965. On August 9, 1975, she married Jasper L. "Jack"
Bonnell, who died January 13, 1996. She is survived by a sister,
Matilda (Fred) Fershin of Mishawaka; a stepson, John L.
(Paula) Bonnell of Scottsdale, AZ; A stepdaughter, Tish (Jeff) Bergen
of South Bend; a grandson, Joshua LaBrake of South Bend;
along with many nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Lillian Muia
and Mary Ellen Stante, preceded her in death Mary enjoyed
golfing and especially playing cards.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10
a.m. Monday, May 12, in St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church
(Ironwood and Jefferson). Interment will follow at Highland
Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to
Lupus Foundation, 2910 Southport, Indianapolis, IN 46227; or to
Hospice & Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend,
IN 46637. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at
Southfield Village for the love and care they have given Mary,
and also to Dr. Shaya Mokfi, MD, for all his personal care. The
HICKEY Funeral Homes, 3516 E. Jefferson Blvd., is in charge of
arrangements.
