SOUTH BEND - Harriet J. BonDurant, 92, died on December 6th a resident of the Sanctuary at St. Paul's. A longtime resident of South Bend, she was born in Bremen, IN, to Rudolph H. and Mary Kathryn (Heckaman) Stoller. She married Keith BonDurant in Mishawaka on February 5, 1949. He predeceased her in 2003. A brother, Dudley Stoller of Bremen, and a sister, Joan Shepherd of Beech Grove, IN, also predeceased her. She is survived by a daughter, Susan Arnold (Dr. P.G.) of Rochester, MN, and a son, Bruce BonDurant (Catherine) of South Bend. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Dr. Phillip Arnold, Dr. Peter (Catherine) Arnold, Stephen Cox, Martin Cox, Daniel (Tracy) Cox, Elizabeth BonDurant and Margaret BonDurant; and nine great-grandchildren. She graduated from Bremen High School in 1934 where she played clarinet in the band and enjoyed dancing at every opportunity. She continued her education at the South Bend College of Commerce from which she graduated in 1936. Mrs. BonDurant served as president to he Women's Association of the South Bend Symphony Orchestra from 1963 to 1965. She sang in her church choir for many years and volunteered for the Literacy Council. An avid bridge player, she belonged to several bridge clubs where she always led 4th from her longest and strongest in "no trump." Her work include several years as a Welcome Newcomer hostess for the South Bend Credit Bureau. "Oma" enjoyed visiting her grandsons, Phillip and Peter in Minnesota, and hosting sleepovers for her granddaughters, Elizabeth and Margaret, when she cooked their favorite dish. After her husband's retirement, she and he traveled extensively, particularly enjoying Guadalajara, Mexico.

 

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 21, in the First Presbyterian Church, 333 W. Colfax Ave., South Bend. Dr. Bob Agnew, interim pastor of the church, will officiate. Friends may visit with the family in the church parlor immediately after the service. Interment will take place at Bremen Cemetery. The family extends a special thank you to the loving caregivers in Healthcare at St. Paul's. Memorial contributions may be made to the church. Palmer Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.
