SOUTH BEND - Joseph M. ''Buddy'' Bond,
70, of 2903 Sampson St., died at 1:05 a.m. Sunday in St. Joseph's
Medical Center after an illness. Mr. Bond retired from the South
Bend Parks Department as supervisor of the recreation centers and
also from the Army after 22 years of service. He was born Dec. 6,
1924, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident.
On Aug. 10, 1954, in Washington, D.C., he
married Gloria E. Smith. She survives with a daughter,
Halehma ''Toni'' Naseer of Houston; two sons, Floyd C. Crider
of San Angelo, Texas, and Norman T. Crider of Marietta, Ga.; 12
grandchildren; four sisters, Ella Miller of Holly, Mich.,
Esther Haynes of Michigan City, Anna Lackey of
Anderson, Ind., and Lois McKissick of South Bend; and a
brother, Ernest T. of Palm Coast, Fla. He was a member of
Disabled American Veterans, Saturday Night Social Club, Elks
Lodge an Par Putter's Golf Club. He was past president of the
Lions Club; former board member of the Youth Services Bureau,
Boys and Girls Club, Cancer Society of St. Joseph County and St.
Joseph Valley Boy Scouts.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in
Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church. Entombment will be in
Highland Mausoleum. Friends may call two hours before services on
Wednesday in the church. Clark's Funeral Chapel is in charge of
arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the church
Educational Fund or United Way of St. Joseph County.
