Corbin Eugene Bolinger Aug. 5, 1929 - July 15, 2008
SOUTH BEND - Corbin "Corby" was born August 5, 1929, in South Bend, the son of LaVerne K. Bolinger and Margaret A (Davis) Bolinger, who preceded him in death, as did his brother, Donald Michael Bolinger. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn J. (Campbell) Bolinger; sons, David L. Bolinger of South Bend, Eric C. (Kelly G.) Bolinger of Austin, TX, and Colin K. Bolinger of Mishawaka; and a sister, Bonnie E. (Ronald C.) Gerard of Bedford, TX. Corby graduated from Central High School in 1947. He attended Indiana University. On December 19, 1950, he enlisted in the 122nd Fighter Squadron, Indiana Air National Guard. President Truman called the unit to active duty the next day. While serving in the Air Force he completed the requirements and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance from Indiana University. After discharge from the Air Force, Corby attended the University of Florida. In June 1955, he received the 32nd Master of Business Administration degree awarded by the University. Upon graduation, he went to work for the Standard-Vacuum Oil Company, a subsidiary of Standard Oil Company and Socony Vacuum Oil Company. The company operated in the Far East. Corby was assigned to the Standard-Vacuum office in Cebu City, Philippines. In June, 1960. While District Manager, Davao City, Philippines, he was elected president of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce. On April 16, 1962, he joined the Treasurer's Department, Associates Investment Co. He retired from the then Associates Corporation of North America on March 31, 1995, as Vice-President, Finance. While at Indiana University, Corby was a member of the Indiana University Rifle Team and the Delta Chi fraternity. He was a fifty-year member of St. Joseph Lodge #45, F. & AM, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, American Legion Post 303, River Park, and Grace United Methodist Church. Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2008, in Grace United Methodist Church, 3012 South Twyckenham Drive, South Bend. Rev. David Schrader will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Contributions in memory of Corbin Bolinger may be offered to Grace United Methodist Church. The Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend, is assisting the Bolinger family with arrangements.
