Indiana. Peter was born in Thorpe, Wisconsin, and grew up in the
lumbering town of Rib Lake, Wisconsin. He enjoyed sports and the

in order to work as a lumberjack to bring in extra money for his
family during The Depression. When Pearl Harbor was bombed he
signed up for duty in the military and served in the Coast
Guard/Navy on the LCI (Landing Craft Infantry). He saw action
during the invasion of Africa, Sicily, Italy and Normandy. He was
wounded in action during the D-Day invasion and was awarded the
Purple Heart. After the war Peter remained on duty with the Coast
Guard and married Bridget C. Coyne on October 28, 1944, in
Chicago, IL. Bridget preceded him in death on March 16, 2007.
After his retirement in 1982 they moved to Mishawaka to be near
family. He enjoyed his family, the St. Joseph river, and Notre
Dame football. Surviving Peter are two daughters, Patricia (Don)
Cressy of Mishawaka and Catherine Rasmussen of Mishawaka; and
three sons, Michael (Mary) Bogumill of Mishawaka, Peter (Mary
Ann) Bogumill of Mesa, AZ, and Paul (Mary Kay) Bogumill of
Helena, MT. Peter also had 14 grandchildren and 13
great-grandchildren. In addition, Peter is survived by one
sister, Florence Vandeveer, and one brother, John (Avis) Bogumill
of Mesa, AZ. A second sister, Betty Wolfe, preceded him in death
in March 2010. The family gratefully wishes to acknowledge the
kindness and care of the Dujarie House staff. We also would like
to thank Curtis Stump, Kay Hill and Cathy Trewhella for their
support with our father. Family and friends are welcome to attend
