SOUTH BEND - Kathryn L. "Kay" Blower, 89, passed away
at 11:21 am Thursday, May 27, 2010 in St. Joseph Regional Med
Center. Kay was born on April 26, 1921 in Canton, Illinois, to
Gabriel and Grace (McComb) Nall. She retired from the South Bend
Comm. School Corp. where she was a teacher and then was a
crossing guard for numerous years. Kathryn was a very active
member of the Rum Village Neighborhood Association and in
numerous city activities. Her involvement led her to receive the
Citizen of the Year several years ago. Kay was also an avid
gardener and scrabble player, and recently began to learn
Spanish. On August 9, 1943 in Hastings, Nebraska she married
Joseph Blower. He died on March 15, 1992. Surviving are a
daughter, Vickie (Ken) Nesmith of Valparaiso, IN; two sons, David
Blower and William "Bud" (Debbie) Blower both of South
Bend; 7 grandchildren Erich (Jill) Blower, Matt Blower, Helen
Gasser, Caleb Shaw, Shelby Nesmith, Melody Blower, and Paige
Blower; a great-grandchild Nora Shaw and other close relatives
Fred (Sharon) Jansen, Ron (Diana) Jansen, Richard Jansen, Jennie
(Rick) Hauk, and Deb (Chris) Neidermeyer. Funeral services will
be conducted at 6:00 pm Tuesday, June 1, 2010 in the Zahoran
Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue. Cremation will follow with
burial in Southlawn Cemetery. Family and friends may call from
3-6 Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be
made to the Rum Village Neighborhood Association. To leave the
