SOUTH BEND - Roger Blanton, 94, went home to be with the
Lord on February 14, 2008, in Healthwin Nursing Home of South
Bend. Roger was born July 23, 1913, in Oakmussen, OK, to Ben and
Lena Blanton. Roger moved to South Bend, IN, in the mid 1950s
from Blythville, AR.
He married Grace Weatherspoon-Blanton, who
preceded him in death. In their union, they adopted Roger's
niece, Pamela Blanton. He retired from Mastic Corporation where
he worked for over 20 years. Roger was an avid fishermen and
hunter, and enjoyed cooking a delicious meal for family and
friends. He also loved to travel. He is survived by two
daughters, Michelle Thomas, and son-in-law, Robert Thomas of
South Bend, and Pamela Blanton-Jones of Vallejo, CA; four
grandchildren, Shawn Thomas and Shena Thomas of South Bend,
Tamond Jones and Tamira Jones-Davis of Vallejo; six
nephews, Chester Baldwin and Carl Baldwin of South Bend,
Oscar Bynum of Maywood, IL, Lee Auprey Blanton of
Covington, GA, Lee Estes Blanton of Vallejo, Wash Blanton Jr. of
Oklahoma and Bradford Blanton of Chicago; two very special
friends, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Chapmen of South Bend; and a
host of relatives and friends. He was the last of five children
born to the union of Ben and Lena Blanton; Laura Davis, Wash
Blanton, Harrison Blanton and Bertha Blanton all preceded Roger
in death.
Services for Mr. Roger Blanton will be at 11
a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, in the Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home, 2702
Lincoln Way West, where friends may call one hour before
services. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The
Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home has been entrusted with services.
