James R. Bland Sr.

June 3, 1924-Feb. 16, 1995

SOUTH BEND - James R. Bland Sr., 70, of Brookfield Street, died at 12:21 p.m. Thursday in St. Joseph's Medical Center. Mr. Bland retired in 1989 from the University of Notre Dame after 10 years of service. He was born June 3, 1924, in South Bend. On Feb. 7, 1948, in South Bend, he married Virginia M. Kruszewski. She survives with two daughters, Janet M. Kruszewski and Patricia A. Miller, both of South Bend; four sons, James R. Jr. of Mishawaka and David M., Joseph A. and Gary P., all of South Bend; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was a veteran of World War II.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3402 Lincoln Way W. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
