Clemends W. Blackston

NEW CARLISLE - Clemends W. "Blackie" Blackston, 87, formerly of East John Emery Road in New Carlisle, IN, passed away at 11:00 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 2010, in Hamilton Communities. He was born on January 2, 1923, to the late Elvy C. and Azalea F. (Qualls) Blackston in Henderson, KY, and had lived in New Carlisle for 64 years. Along with his parents, one daughter, Sharon Mynatt, four sisters, Marvine Richardson, Imogene Stone, Pauline Duncan and Dorothy Stone, and one brother, Bud Blackston, also preceded him in death. Mr. Blackston retired in 1981 from Allis Chalmers in LaPorte, IN, where he worked as a powerhouse supervisor after 30 years of employment. On March 16, 1946, he married Norma J. Stockton in New Carlisle, IN. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Norma J. (Stockton) of New Carlisle, IN; two daughters, Karen Ingole of New Carlisle, IN, and Denise (Steve) Runnels of South Bend, IN; five grandchildren, LeeAnn and Lisa Mynatt, both of Bedford, IN, Michael Ingole of Hudson Lake, IN, Amanda and Nicholaus Nally, both of South Bend, IN; 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Browne of New Carlisle, IN; and two brothers, George Blackston of New Carlisle, IN, and Joe (Darlene) Blackston of Riverside, CA. Mr. Blackston was an Army veteran of World War II, and then re-enlisted in the Air Force. He was a member of American Legion Post #297 in New Carlisle, IN, and U.A.W. Local #1319. Blackie was an avid golfer and a Chicago Cubs baseball fan. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 11, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert Street, New Carlisle, IN. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 12, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, New Carlisle, IN, with Rev. Dr. Joyce Kuhn officiating.
