Richard Joseph Birmingham, D.D.S., 74, of Craig Road in South Bend, Ind., passed away after an illness on Wednesday, April 24, in Hospice House, South Bend. He was born on July 29, 1927, in South Bend, to the late Peter Joseph and Sarah M. (Keitzer) Birmingham. Dr. Birmingham was retired after 43 years from his dental practice in South Bend.
On June 4, 1955, Richard married Jeanne Marie Borges, his wife of 46 years, who survives. He is also survived by his daughters, Ellen Birmingham of Mishawaka, Ind., Nan Birmingham of Michigan City, Ind., and Mary Jane (Craig) Bennett of Indianapolis, Ind.; a son, Peter (Lisa) Birmingham of Chicago, Ill.; grandchildren, Corban, Caitlin, Sarah, Erin, Emily, Alec and Davis; and by a sister, Rosemary (James L.) O'Brien of Princeton, N.J. Dr.
Birmingham was a World War II Navy veteran, graduated from Franklin College and the University of Louisville Dental School in 1957. He was a member of the Indiana Dental Society and the Morris Park Country Club.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 26, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend. Private services and burial will take place.
