SOUTH BEND - Evelina (Polk) Bird, 79, of Ponader Drive, died at 11:33 p.m. Friday in her residence of natural causes.

Mrs. Bird was born Nov. 7, 1916, in Toledo, Ohio, and came here in 1950 from Long Island, N.Y. On Oct. 31, 1936, in Ann Arbor, she married Professor Otto A. Bird. He survives with three daughters, Katharine Bird of Washington, D.C., Evelina Haas of Mequon, Wis., and Sarah Bird of South Bend; five sons, William of Morrow, Ohio, Michael of Shoals, Ind., Anthony of Indianapolis, Christopher of Decatur, Ala., and Bartholomew of Rockville, Md.; 19 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dora Heilman of Bay City, Mich. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Notre Dame.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Basilica of Sacred Heart, University of Notre Dame. Cremation will take place, with burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in McGann Funeral Home, 2313 E. Edison Road.
