SOUTH BEND - Gerda T. Bilz, 100, of South Bend, died at
9:00 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2008, in Holy Cross Care and Rehab
following a short illness. Mrs. Bilz was born April 19, 1908, in
Dusseldorf, Germany, to the late Otto and Therese (Reuter)
Weber, and had lived in the South Bend area since 1956. On
December 31, 1926, in Germany, she married Willie Bilz, who
preceded her in death. She is survived by her guardian and
friend, Evelyn Hinton of Mishawaka. Gerda retired from the
housekeeping department of the former Northern Indiana Children's
Hospital. She was a member of the Progress Club and the Women of
the Moose. Gerda was an inspiration to the residents and
caregivers at Holy Cross Care and Rehab for her longevity and
wonderful personality. Her friends would like to extend their
eternal gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Holy
Cross for their wonderful care and compassion for Gerda in her
time there.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m.
Monday, May 12th, in the chapel of Highland Cemetery, with Rev.
Robert Austgen, CSC, officiating. Interment will follow next to
her mother. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions
may be made to the Activity Department at Holy Cross Care and
Rehab, 17475 Dugdale Drive, South Bend, IN 46635. Welsheimer
Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, is handling
arrangements.
