George J. Billey, 82, of Longwood
Drive, South Bend, died Saturday, May 17, after a short illness.
He was born on Feb. 27, 1915 in Van Meter,
Pa. He lived in the South Bend area most of his life.
On Sept. 30, 1938, in South Bend, he married
Dorothy R. Beghtel. She survives along with a son, Paul
and his wife, Carolyn of South Bend and a daughter, Beth Ann Cox
and her husband, Leslie of Cleveland, Tenn. Also surviving are
seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. There are five
surviving sisters, Ann Rife, Margaret Testo, Mary Tinberg,
all of Elkhart, Elizabeth Robinson of Union, Mich. and
Verna Henke of Goshen; three brothers, Charles and Mike
Billey both of Elkhart and Steve Billey of Goshen. A brother,
John Billey preceded him in death. Mr. Billey retired from Bendix
Corporation, where he was a foreman in the Aircraft Division. He
was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Tuesday, May 20, in Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, in Calvary
Baptist Church, 3001 W. Cleveland Road, South Bend. Interment
will take place in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 10776 McKinley
Highway, Osceola. Memorial contributions may be made to the
church or to Children Need the Lord, 4600 S. Michigan St., South
Bend, Ind. 46614.
