SOUTH BEND - Mary Katherine Biebuyck, 91, of South Bend, passed
away on Monday, June 21, 2010, in Hospice House, South Bend. She
was born on July 14, 1918, in South Bend, to the late Alex and
Mary (Fozo) Horvath, and was a lifelong area resident. Mary
graduated from South Bend Central High School in 1936. On June
15, 1940, as Mary Katherine Horvath, she married George C.
Biebuyck, who preceded her in death on April 28, 2005. Along with
her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister,
Betty Nyikos; a brother, Ernest Horvath; and by three
grandchildren, Mark, Diane and Charles Austin. Mary is survived
by her six daughters, Patricia (Michael) Austin of Concord, MA,
Elaine (Dennis) Fountain of South Bend, Suzanne (Joe) Werfelman
of Sciota, PA, Joyce Longo of Grant, MI, Cynthia Wagoner and
Deborah (Rodney) Green, both of South Bend; 11 grandchildren,
Glenn Austin, Cheryl Riordan, Melissa Austin, David and Stephen
Fountain, Alisa Wood, Camille Bugden, Richard Murphy, Gina Moll,
Abigail and William Green; 10 great-grandchildren, Christopher,
Anika, Timothy, Bekha, Jordan, Sadie, Alicia, Michael, Nicholas
and Samuel; and by a brother, William Horvath of Spokane, WA.
Mrs. Biebuyck worked for Standard Oil for three years and Sears
for 10 years before retiring from the latter in 1979. She was a
parishioner of Corpus Christi Church and a member of the Altar
Society. She was a member of St. Anne's of Our Lady of Hungary
Church and a former member of Corpus Christi Home School. She was
also a member of the Volksring Club and the Chain-O-Lakes
Conservation Club. In 1959 she wrote a letter to the "Voice
of the People" which kept the Morris Civic Auditorium from
being demolished. Funeral services for Mrs. Biebuyck will be held
at noon on Friday, June 25, 2010, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home,
3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend. Friends may visit for two hours
prior to services. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South
Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the YWCA of St.
