Frank J. Bickel

Frank J. Bickel, aged 59, councilman of the Fifth ward and proprietor of a grocery store in Mishawaka since 1900, died at 8:40 o’clock Saturday night in his home at 918 Division street.  He had been ill since February and death was attributed to apoplexy.

Elected by the council on October, 1932, to fill the vacancy left by the death of Clyde Cox, Fifth ward councilman, Mr. Bickel served in that capacity until his illness prevented his further attendance at meetings.  He was a councilman-at-large in this city a number of years ago.

Born Feb. 16, 1874, Mr. Bickel was a lifelong resident of Mishawaka, and a well-known member of St, Monica’s Roman Catholic church.  He was married 35 years ago to Miss Sadie Futterknecht, who survives.

Others who survive are seven children, Mrs. Frances Stockberger, Wilfred Bickel, Mrs. Lillian Scheibelhut, Mrs. Loretta Hambright, all of Mishawaka, Mrs. Ronald Rich, of South Bend, and Virginia and Ronald Bickel, at home.  Five brothers and a sister, George, Joseph and Nicholas, all of Mishawaka; Henry of Edwardsburg, Mich., and Otto, of Marcellus, Mich., and Mrs. Ralph Howland, of this city, also survive.  Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
