Mrs. Elizabeth M. Bickel

Mrs. Elizabeth M. Bickel, 88 formerly of 138 St. Lo, died at 4:05 p.m. Tuesday in the Cardinal Nursing Home, South Bend, after a three year illness.  Born in Aurora, Ill. on Nov. 26, 1889, she moved here 75 years ago from Aurora.  As Elizabeth M. Howland she married George Bickel on April 27, 1909, in St. Joseph Catholic Church.  He died in 1962.

Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Winifred Cecchi of Mishawaka; three sons, Lawrence of Elkhart and Earl and Virgil, both of Mishawaka; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.  Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home.  Mrs. Bickel was a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church and a former president of the parish Rosary Society.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the St. Monica’s Catholic Church for Mrs. Elizabeth M. Bickel, 88, formerly of 138 St. Lo, who died Tuesday in the Cardinal Nursing Home, South Bend.  Rev. William Gieranowski, pastor, will officiate, and burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.  Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
