MISHAWAKA - On Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 1 a.m., Heaven opened its
gates for Dorothy "Gail" Benson, 75, as she
passed away peacefully in the Morningside Rest Home. She was born
on July 1, 1932, in Crowder, Oklahoma, as the daughter of the
late Clyde J. Barlow and Merle I. (Burke) Barlow.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Vinita Troop-Saunders,
Sybil Prescott and Oleda Greenlee; and two
brothers, Harold and Gloster Barlow. Surviving are a sister,
Betty Cordell of Indianola, OK, and a brother, Jerry
Barlow of Yuba City, CA. Also surviving are her four children,
Randall, Stephen and Danny Benson of Mishawaka, and Roberta
Thompson of Goshen. She also has 12 grandchildren and 18
great-grandchildren.
As the former Dorothy Gail Barlow, she
married Robert L. Benson on June 4, 1950, in Indianola, OK, and
he preceded her in death on October 31, 1999. Gail was a member
of the South Side General Baptist Church. She loved to sing and
was active in the church choir. She will be remembered for her
love of family, her great cooking, and her love of the Lord and
gospel music.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8
p.m. today, Nov. 9, in the South Side General Baptist Church,
with the funeral also in the church on Saturday at 10 a.m. Pastor
Jeff Little will be presiding over the memorial service.
Arrangements will be handled by the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N.
Main Street, Mishawaka.
