MISHAWAKA - Shirley Jean Bennett, 63, of East 8th Street,
Mishawaka, passed away Thursday at her home surrounded by her
family at 2:15 p.m. She was born in Florence, Alabama on March
27, 1945, to Coy and Lois (Holt) Wright who
preceded her in death.
On October 10, 1970, she married Charles
Bennett. He died February 1, 2005. Mrs. Bennett was a meat
wrapper for Martins Supermarkets until her retirement. She was a
member of Southside General Baptist Church in Mishawaka. She and
her husband owned and operated the Northside Food Shop in
Dowagiac, Michigan for more than 20 years, until 1993. She is
survived by her children, Lisa (David) Eifler of Mishawaka
and James (Lisa) Bennett of Granger; her stepchildren, Mary Hinch
of Kalamazoo, Michigan and Kim (Delbert) Ritchie of
Decatur, Michigan; two sisters, Nina (Roy) Carter of
Mishawaka and Joyce (Gary) Bailey of Fort Wayne; along
with 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two nieces; and
two nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bennett will be at
2:00 p.m. Today at Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 North Main Street,
Mishawaka, where friends will be received from 10 until the time
of the services at 2:00 today. Burial will follow at Fairview
Cemetery, Mishawaka. The family has requested that memorial
contributions be made to Southside General Baptist Church
Building Fund.
