SOUTH BEND - John William Belting, 87, of Kepess Court,
South Bend, died Thursday morning in Dujarie House, Holy Cross
Village. John was born on November 5, 1920, in Mishawaka, to John
Henry Belting and Agnes (Myers) Belting. A graduate of
Mishawaka High School, he served in the Army during WWII.
On May 5, 1951, he married his love, Mary (Hoffman)
Belting, at Sacred Heart Church, Notre Dame, and after
honeymooning in Cuba made their home in South Bend. In 1963 John,
a jeweler and certified gemologist, embarked upon a new career in
life insurance and estate planning. Upon successfully completing
intensive studies he obtained the designations of CLU and ChFC.
John was preceded in death by Mary, his wife of 50 years, his
sister, Maris (Bultinck) Huffman, and his second
daughter, Ann. He is survived by his sister, Patricia Belting,
PHJC, of Donaldson; daughter, Mary Jones of Sumter, SC;
sons, William of Lafayette, IN, Christopher of Lafayette, CO,
Michael of Tempe, AZ, and Kurt and Joseph of South Bend; as well
as six beloved grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held in
Holy Cross Church (Wilber and Vassar streets) on Monday, Dec. 10,
at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial
Park, Granger, IN. Friends may call from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the
Hickey Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road, 289-1000, where a
Rosary will be said at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial
gifts may be made to Holy Cross School, 920 Wilber St., South
Bend, IN 46628; or to the Carmelite Monastery, 4300 Mount Carmel
Drive NE, Ada, MI 49301.
