NILES - Candace Elizabeth Bella, 53, passed away on
Thursday, Feb. 14th, after a courageous battle with cancer. She
was born on October 17, 1954, in South Bend, to the late Doris (Murray),
and to Imre Modos, who survives and resides in South Bend.
On August 20, 1988, in South Bend, as
Candace Elizabeth Szilagyi, she married Robert Bella, who
survives. Candace is also survived by two daughters, Lesley Ann
(Chuck) Ruttschaw of Goshen and Lisa Jean Bella at home; a
son, Robert James Bella at home; a grandson, Benjamin Ruttschaw
of Goshen; her father, Imre Modos; two sisters, Starr (Terry) Kelley
of Rolling Prairie and Mira Anderer of Milwaukee, WI; four
brothers, Eric (Corky) Uitdenhowen of Granger, Mark Todd
of South Bend, Scott (Sharon) Uitdenhowen of Voorhees, NJ, and
Todd Modos of Johnson, IA; four nieces and 10 nephews. Candace
was a registered nurse. She was a 1972 graduate of Clay High
School, South Bend, and received her nursing degree from
Southwestern Michigan College. She was a member of Christ the
King Catholic Church, South Bend, where she was involved in many
church activities. She was a volunteer nurse at Christ the King
School and was involved in her children's activities including
Cub Scouts, Girl and Boy Scouts, and selling spirit wear at St.
Joseph High School. Candace was truly a wonderful, caring and
loving, wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and
friend and will be greatly missed by all of those whose lives she
touched.
Services for Candace will be at 10 a.m.
Tuesday, Feb. 19, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North,
17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, where friends may call from 3
to 7 p.m. Monday. Burial will be at St. Joseph Valley Memorial
Park, Granger. The family request that memorial contributions be
made to the American Cancer Society, 601 West Edison, Mishawaka,
IN 46545.
