SOUTH BEND - Violet Dorthie Bedwell, 85, passed away at 4
a.m. Wednesday Oct. 29, 2008, in her daughters home, surrounded
by her loving family. Violet was born March 6, 1923 in Owen
County, IN, to the late Vernon and Dorthie (Beatty) Nash.
On November 9, 1944 in Clay City, IN, as Violet Nash, she married
Charles R. Bedwell who preceded her on May 13, 1977. Violet was
also preceded by two sisters, Mildred DeCius and Myrtle
Nash; and five brothers, Lester, Carlton, Kenneth, Milburn and
Lloyd Nash. She is survived by a daughter, Patricia (Donald) Holmberg
of South Bend; two granddaughters, Elizabeth (Justin) Bradbury
of Covington, KY and Laura Holmberg of South Bend; a brother,
Ernest (Anna Mae) Nash of Kingsford Heights, IN; sisters-in-laws,
Lora and Norma Nash; and several nieces and nephew. Violet was a
1941 graduate of Hymera High School, Hymera, IN. She was a
riveter during World War II, working on parts for the Liberator
Bomber. She also enjoyed traveling with her daughter, son-in-law,
and grandchildren to places in Canada, Orlando, FL, Mackinac
Island, Kalamazoo, MI, the Smokey Mountains, and many other
destinations. Violet enjoyed spending time with her family and
watching her grandchildren participate in many school, 4-H, and
Girl Scout activities. She also enjoyed working on ceramics with
her daughter.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1 in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., South Bend, with Rev. Jeff Zell of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church officiating, where Violet was a member. Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday. November 2 at Stephens Cemetery, Lewis, IN, with Rev. Steve Rundel officiating. In Violet's memory, contributions may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 225 E. Haney Street, South Bend, IN 46613.
