Herbert G. Beckmann, 80, of South
Bend, Ind., passed away at 2:25 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 18, in
the Memorial Hospital emergency room, South Bend. Mr. Beckmann
was born on May 8, 1919, in Wellington, Mo., to the late Henry
and Clara (Kolkmeyer) Beckmann, and had lived in this
community since 1946.
He retired in 1976 as an accountant with the
Associates Investment Company where he served for more than 30
years. He also served as an accountant for the Masonic Lodge for
12 years.
On July 28, 1945, in San Francisco, Calif.,
he married Marjorie D. Engel. He is survived by his loving
wife of 54 years, Marjorie; a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie
Marie and Jim McKenzie of Omaha, Neb.; a son, Bruce R. Beckmann
of Shrewsbury, Mass.; six grandchildren and one great-grandson;
and by two brothers, Armin Beckmann of Wellington and Everett
Beckmann of Odessa, Mo.
Mr. Beckmann was a member of St. Peter's
United Church of Christ, South Bend, was a member of the church
choir, and served in every other office in the church, including
the Memorial Fund, the Investment Committee, and he was
superintendent of the Sunday School. He was a member of the
Potawatomi Kiwanis Club since March 1977 where he served as
secretary-treasurer for over 20 years. He was president of the
Good Sam Camping Club, and served in the United States Navy
during World War II.
Memorial services for Herbert G. Beckmann
will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21, in St. Peter's
United Church of Christ, 915 N. Ironwood, South Bend. Rev. James
Iliff will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8
p.m. today in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue,
South Bend. The family has requested that contributions in memory
of Herbert be made to the Organ Fund of St. Peter's United Church
of Christ.
