SOUTH BEND - Irene J. Beckman, 66, of Hollyhock Road, died at 12:55 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Hospital of natural causes. Mrs. Beckman retired in 1994 from the South Bend Community School Corp. as a teacher at Warren School after 22 years of service. She was born May 20, 1929, in Detroit and lived in South Bend since 1963.

On Sept. 4, 1948, in Milford, Mich., she married Joe M. Beckman Jr. He survives with two daughters, Julie Welling of New Carlisle and Sandra Moreland of South Bend; two sons, Joe M. III of South Bend and Scott A. of Dallas; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She was a member of Indiana State Retired Teachers Association.

There will be no services or visitation. Cremation will take place. Welsheimer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
