Agnes M. Becker

Agnes McGarry Becker, 96, formerly of East Madison Street and the Turtle Creek Apartments, both in South Bend, Ind., died of natural causes on Friday, Aug. 31, in the Cardinal Nursing Home.
Agnes, known as "Mimi" to her family and many of her friends, was born in Chicago, Ill., where she married William J. Becker on Oct. 21, 1933. They moved to South Bend in 1950. Bill died in 1960. She was also preceded in death by one grandchild, Michael Matson Haley in 1992.
Bill and Mimi had four children, who all survive. They are Denise (Chuck) Roemer of Mishawaka, Ind., Lourdene Haley of Portland, Ore., William (Patti) Becker of Racine, Wis., and Thomas (Jane) Becker of Chautauqua, N.Y. Additional survivors include 15 grandchildren, who are Mark Roemer, Greta Roemer Lewis, Kurt Roemer, Karl Roemer, Marta Roemer Brummell, Malia Haley Wasson, Thomas Haley, Kerry Haley, Garin Haley, Tara Becker, Bridget Becker, Conan Becker, Culleen Becker, Erin Becker and Molly Becker; nine great-grandchildren; and her godchild and niece, Ramona Fitzgerald.
Agnes was a member of St. Joseph Parish in South Bend, where she was active in the Altar Society and Christ Child Society for many years.
Visitation will be held for one hour, from 9 to 10 a.m. next Friday, Sept. 14, in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, intersection of LaSalle and Hill streets in South Bend, followed by a memorial Mass at 10 a.m. in the church.
In lieu of flowers, all desired contributions may be made in her memory to either St. Joseph Catholic Church or to the M. Matson Haley Memorial Scholarship Fund, Santa Clara University, c/o Jerry Kerr, 500 El Camino Real, Santa Clara, CA 95053.
