SOUTH BEND - James L. Beaton, 76, of Wall Street, died at 8:09 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Hospital. Mr. Beaton retired in 1980 from Bendix Corp. as a metallurgical engineering manager. He was born Jan. 8, 1920, in Newburyport, Mass., and lived in South Bend since 1949.

On April 11, 1947, in Toledo, Ohio, he married Kathryn Cook. She died May 3, 1988. On June 16, 1989, he married Marguerite McCammon. She survives with two daughters, Lenna Skubis of Westchester, Pa., and Wendy G. Beaton of Northampton, Mass.; a son, Michael of South Bend; a stepson, Larry McCammon of South Bend; six grandchildren; and a step-grandchild. He was a member of Bendix Senior Management Club and American Turners and a veteran of World War II.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call one hour before services in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association.
