Ronald Wilford Bayer

April 20, 1946 – September 28, 1979

Services for Ronald Wilford Bayer, 33, of 530 E. Ireland Road, will be at 10am Monday in the Christian Center Church, with Dr. Lester Sumrall, pastor, officiating.  Bayer was killed in an airplane crash at 1:10am Friday near Indianapolis.  Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery.  Friends may call form 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm today in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood.

Bayer was named general manager of station WHMB-TV in Indianapolis on August 1, but had not moved his residence from South Bend.  He was a former employee of station WHME-TV in South Bend. 

He was born on April 20, 1946, in Murphysboro IL, and moved to South Bend eight years ago, coming from Granite City IL.  On August 7, 1965, in Granite City, he married Barbara Stephens, who survives.  Also surviving are two daughters, Kimberly Ann, and Bobbie Renee, both at home; a son, Ronald Jason, at home; a sister, Mrs. Debra Smith of South Bend; a brother, James of South Bend, and his parents, Mr. & Mrs Hubert Bayer of South Bend.  Bayer was a member of the Christian Center Church.
