Jeanette Bauwens, 86, formerly of North State Street, Mishawaka, Ind., died after an illness at 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, in Valley View Health Care Center, Elkhart, Ind. Mrs. Bauwens was born on Feb. 7, 1911, in Bertrand, Mich., as the daughter of Harry and Grace (Spry) Bast, and was a lifetime area resident.
On May 11, 1935, in Mishawaka, as Jeanette Bast, she married Aloys R. Bauwens, who preceded her in death on Dec. 17, 1966. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Anna Nidiffer. Mrs. Bauwens is survived by a daughter, Becky (Joseph) Kiefer of Goshen, Ind.; four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Mrs. Bauwens was an employee in the engineering department office of the former Wheelabrator-Frye Corporation in Mishawaka for 10 years, from where she retired in 1976.
She was a member of St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka, Wheelabrator's Julianna Club and the former St. Bavo's Altar Sodality. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday in St. Bavo's Catholic Church, with Rev. James Shafer officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. Eighth Street, Mishawaka. A Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Unit at Valley View Health Care Center, 333 W. Mishawaka Road, Elkhart, IN 46516.
