Evelyn H. Reader Battles, 95, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2006, in the Hooverwood Nursing Home, Indianapolis. The daughter of George and Blanch (Fowler) Ek, Evelyn was born January 19, 1911, in South Bend. She retired in 1970 from South Bend Woodwork, where she worked in accounting. Mrs. Battles was the widow of Bert I. Reader and George F. Battles. Survivors include her brother, Sonny Ek of Niles, Michigan, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
