ROCHESTER - Mrs. Mildred I. Batten, 90, of 912 Sunflower Lanes,
formerly of South Bend, IN, passed away at noon on Thursday, Aug.
6th, in Parkview Hospital, Ft. Wayne, IN. Mildred was born in
Macy, IN, on September 14, 1918, the daughter of the late Charles
and Mary Alice (Glasford) Chapin. On June 17, 1944, she married
William Batten in South Bend; they later divorced. With a
construction and public accounting background she was a project
cost accountant for the former American Sterilizer Company in
Erie, PA. They manufactured hospital equipment and installed in
hospitals across the USA and overseas. They also built additions
to hospitals. From 1989-1998 she was an auditor for Robert Half
International, Kalamazoo, MI, during the building of the IN/TEK
and IN/KOTE plants near New Carlisle, IN. Mildred also
sub-contracted for Penrod Tax Services. She was a member of the
Greater Erie National Accountants Association. Mildred was also a
member of the Grace United Methodist Church of South Bend, where
she served as past treasurer of United Methodist Women and as
Mary-Martha circle leader. Mildred is survived by a daughter,
Jean Batten of Richmond, IN. She was preceded in death by her
parents. A celebration of the life of Mildred I. Batten will be
at 2 p.m. today, August 11th, in the Good Family Funeral Home,
1200 W. 18th Street, Rochester, IN, with Pastor David Schrader
officiating. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service in
the funeral home. Interment will be at Ebenezer Cemetery.
