Nathaline A. Battani, 82, of Wheatstone Drive, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 3, in South Carolina. On Jan. 16, 1920, Nathaline was born in Milan, Italy, as the daughter of the late Eugene and Angelica (Portaluppi) Chiodini.
On Sept. 4, 1943, in Detroit, Mich., as the former Nathaline A. Chiodini, she married Charles R. Battani, who preceded her in death on Sept. 25, 1990, after 47 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Anthony Chiodini. Nathaline is survived by her three daughters, Charlotte Schultz of Mason, Mich., Sandra Barnes of Detroit and Teresa Alveraz of Cordoba, Argentina; four sons, Michael F. Battani of San Jose, Calif., Robert C. Battani of South Bend, Ind., Steven J. Battani of North Carolina and Charles J. Battani of North Augusta, S.C.; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Esther Hayden of Warren, Mich.
Nathaline worked at Holy Cross Hospital for the Red Cross before she was married. She was a resident of Cordoba, Argentina, from 1955-1974, and then she moved to Mishawaka from 1976-2002. She graduated from St. Elizabeth High School in Detroit in 1936. She was a member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, Detroit, Queen of Peace, Mishawaka, and St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka. She was very active at St. Bavo's where she was a member of the choir.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, where a Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 10, in St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka. Rev. Barry England will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Bavo's School, 511 W. 7th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544.
