Carl John Batson, 77, of Pheasant Run, Mishawaka, Ind., died Wednesday morning, Oct. 2, in his home. Carl was born Aug. 1, 1925, in South Bend, Ind., to Jay and Mary Batson, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Harry Batson.

He is survived by a son, John C. Batson of Mishawaka; two grandchildren, Bill and Brandy; a great-great-grandson, Jared; and by two sisters, Esther Murphy of Cookeville, Tenn., and Dorothy Sampson of Michigan.

Carl was a lifetime member of VFW Post 9820 and a Navy veteran of World War II. He retired from Plast-Ad after several years.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today in the HICKEY Funeral Home, 3516 E. Jefferson, 289-1000. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.
