South Bend, IN — Barbara Marie Bates, 33 years old, residing on S. 28th Street, South Bend, passed away at 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday, August 7, 2001, at the Memorial Hospital, South Bend, after a courageous battle with cancer for the past 4 years. Barbara was born on November 9, 1967, in Mansfield, OH, and has lived in South Bend for the past 25 years.

On November 8, 1987, in South Bend, she married Randy S. Bates, who survives. Along with her husband, Randy, survivors include one son, Kyle David Bates; two daughters, Erin Dolores Bates and Ellyn Louise Bates, all at home; her father and stepmother, Ira and Wanda Hudnall of Crestline, OH; mother and father-in-law, Carl and Delores Bates of Niles, MI; four brothers, D.D. (Michelle Niemeir) Hudnall of South Bend, Chad Edward (Cathy) Hudnall of South Bend, David Leon (Julie) Hudnall of South Bend and John Alan Hudnall of South Bend; and sister-in-law, Janice (Norman) Webb of Grand Haven, MI; 10 nephews and nieces; and a host of friends. Barbara's mother, Louise Marie Hudnall, preceded her in death on December 18, 1984.

Barbara loved her work as a teacher's aide at Edison School for the past three years. She was a member of the Northside Assembly of God in South Bend. Barbara will be missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Rev. Ed Mehaffie, pastor of the Northside Assembly of God, will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Hamilton Cemetery, New Carlisle. Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 9, at the Palmer Funeral Home, South Bend. Contributions in memory of Barbara Marie Bates may be donated to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or to the American Cancer Society, 535 W. Edison Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
