Ruth L. Bassett, 97, of the Fountainview Nursing Home, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 8. Ruth was born on April 4, 1903, in Bremen, Ind., to Jacob and Hattie (Behhler) Schutz, who both preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Schutz; and by two sisters, Edna Horein and Dorothy Nicholos.

In 1949 Ruth married Kenneth B. Basset, who died in 1970. Ruth leaves to cherish her memories her son, Emerson L. (Pauline) DeFord of Niles, Mich.; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Ruth was a member of St. Andrew United Church of Christ. She lived in Tanglewood Terrace Retirement, Mishawaka, until she broke her hip. Ruth was employed by Uniroyal and as a cashier by the A&P Supermarket, Mishawaka.

Friends and family may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 10, in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home, with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
