James Robert Basker

James Robert Basker (Hobes), 51, of North Niles Avenue, South Bend, Ind., died of natural causes on Thursday, March 16, in his home. Jim was a 1966 graduate of the former South Bend Central High School where he played four years of football.
He is survived by two sons, James Robert, Jr., and Adam Arthur. Jim accepted Jesus Christ into his heart as Lord and Savior.
Jim was in retail sales for 12 years. He spent 18 months with the St. Joseph County Police Department. He traveled all over the country in the last four decades, meeting new people and visiting new places. His philosophical outlook on life was very unique.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Eugene A. Basker in December 1986; and by his brother, George Frederick Basker in August 1984. Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Hazel (Condley) Basker of Mishawaka, Ind.; three sisters, Mary A. (Bob) Wilson of Ober, Ind., Annie (Tom) Ferrettie of Mishawaka and Kimberly A. Basker of South Bend; seven brothers, Joseph W., Eugene M., John P. (Meg), Timothy A. (Kim), Christopher E. (Lisa), and Daniel A. (Jane), all of South Bend, and Thomas F. (Cyndi) of Mishawaka. Jim also had 16 nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to visit from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, with a Rosary at 3:30 p.m. in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. Williams. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in St. Matthew's Cathedral, with burial to follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
