John F. Basham, 74, of Edwardsburg, Michigan, died Wednesday, March 29, in Memorial Hospital in South Bend.
He was born in Mishawaka on June 19, 1931, to John and Louella (DeVore) Basham.
John married Sharon L. Poland in Mishawaka on December 27, 1952. He is survived by Sharon, his wife of 53 years; three daughters, Cheryl Basham of Edwardsburg, Shelley Basham of Elkhart, Tracey (Bo) Johnson of Niles; eight grandchildren, Holly, Jennifer, Kristen, Megan, Matt, Becky, Mike and Scottie; and five great-grandchildren. Among other survivors are five sisters, Bertha Copp, Marge Boehnlein, Evelyn Kline, Norma Nowak and Ruth Frick; and a brother, Robert Basham, all of Mishawaka. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Russell, William (Buss), and James; a granddaughter, Rachel; and his son, Scott John Basham Sr. in 2005.
John was honorably discharged from the Army in 1953, having served in Japan, Austria and Germany. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post #360. He retired in 1991 from Uniroyal following many years of service.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 2, from 3 to 5 p.m. in Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Monday with Rev. Debra Basham officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
