SOUTH BEND - Rev. Thomas O. Barrosse, CSC, former Superior General of the Congregation of Holy Cross, died Tuesday in Dhaka, Bangladesh, where he was serving as a missionary. He was 68.
Rev. Barrosse was born June 3, 1926, in New Orleans.
He took first vows in the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1944 and was ordained in 1950 in Rome. From 1951 to 1956, he studied at the Biblical Institute in Rome. From 1956 to 1966, he taught at Notre Dame and at the Congregation's Theology Seminary in Washington, D.C. From 1966 to 1969, he served in Rome.
In 1969, he became director of Holy Cross Novitiate, Bennington, Vt., until 1974 when he was elected as Superior General of the Congregation. He was re-elected in 1980 and finished his term in 1986. Since 1987, he has served in the Congregation's mission in Bangladesh teaching in Dhaka.
A memorial Mass will be at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in Sacred Heart Basilica, Notre Dame. Burial was in Bangladesh.
