Gladys C. Barnhart

Gladys C. Barnhart, 81, of South West
Street in Mishawaka, died at 4:15 p.m. Monday, January 23, 2006,
at Hospice House in South Bend. Gladys was born September 1,
1924, in Mishawaka, to the late James and Mary (Van Driessche)
Varda.
On September 1, 1947, she married Harvey
Barnhart in St. Bavo Catholic Church in Mishawaka. Harvey
survives along with two daughters, Mara Barnhart of Mishawaka and
Patricia Ann Barnhart of Mishawaka; one son, James (Donita)
Barnhart of Mishawaka; five grandchildren, Kevin and Melissa
Steen, and Adam, Catherine and Joseph Barnhart; and one
great-granddaughter, Gabriella Hooker. Gladys had lived in
Mishawaka all of her life. She was the organist and the choir
director for St. Bavo Catholic Church for 30 years. She was a
member of St. Bavo Catholic Church, AARP, and was a past
treasurer for the State of Indiana Fraternal Order of Police
Auxiliary. Gladys was also a graduate of the Kunkul Conservatory
of Music where she taught music and she also attended IUSB.
Gladys' family will receive friends today
from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th
St., Mishawaka, where wake prayers will be read at 3:30 p.m. A
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday in St.
Bavo Catholic Church, with the Rev. Robert Austgen, C.S.C.,
officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Mishawaka. In
memory of Gladys, the family requests that memorial donations be
made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111
Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or to Television Masses
of the Fort Wayne/South Bend Diocese, Catholic Communications
Office, 915 S. Clinton St., Fort Wayne, IN 46802.
