Martha Louise Barnes
Dec. 27, 1912 - July 11, 2002
Martha Louise Barnes, 89, residing on E. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, passed away at 6:20 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2002 in Hamilton Grove Retirement Center, New Carlisle following a brief illness. She was born December 27, 1912 in North Webster, Ind., as the daughter of Milo S. & Elizabeth Daniels. On November 29, 1933 in North Webster, she married Delbert H. "Barney" Barnes. Shortly after they were married, they moved to South Bend, and resided here for the remainder of her life. Martha & Delbert were married for 55 years until his passing on December 22, 1998. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Doug Barnes in 1992, and Dr David Barnes in 1996.
Mrs. Barnes is survived by two sons and their wives, Daniel J. and Sandra Barnes of South Bend; and Lester and Patricia Barnes of Indianapolis; two daughters-in-law, Iris D. Barnes of Orange County, Calif., and Jean Barnes of Zionsville, Ind. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren, Lisa Gutel of Westminster, Calif., Dee Dee Frauman of Lancaster, Pa., Dan Barnes and Scott Barnes, both of South Bend, Sarah Barnes, Kate Barnes and Mollie Barnes all of Chicago; Zachary Barnes, Sam Barnes, Tim Barnes and Matt Barnes, all of Indianapolis and Dennis Barnes of England; and seven great-grand children.
Mrs. Barnes was a long time member of Calvary Temple where she served as Pianist for many years.
Graveside services will be at 1:15 p.m. Monday, July 15, at Southlawn Cemetery. Rev. William G. Howell, pastor of Calvary Temple will officiate. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Monday in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend.
