SOUTH BEND - Lorenzo Barnes, 60, was born April 15, 1948,
to J.D. Barnes and Clara Hyde (Thomas) in Tyronza, Arkansas. He
was baptized at 12 years old, and attended Tyronza High School.
Lorenzo served in the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1971. He loved to
travel and experience new things. He lived in Racine, WI,
Houston, TX, New Haven, CT, Memphis, TN, Chicago, IL, and settled
in South Bend, IN, in the 80s. He worked at the College Football
Hall of Fame before falling ill. Lorenzo enjoyed good times and
good food, and Lorenzo lived his life to the fullest.
God blessed Lorenzo and Debra
Bridges-Beasley, they married within six months of meeting each
other on December 10, 1999, and remained together to the end.
They found love that many of us still search for, love that
helped Lorenzo change his life, and which inspired all of those
who knew them that love is real. As Lorenzo moves on, our
memories of him will keep him alive. He leaves to cherish his
loving memory his wife, Debra; his father, J.D. (Clara) Barnes of
Tyronza, Ark.; his mother, Clara Hyde; his mother-in-law,
Margaret King of Chicago, IL; five brothers, Ernest
(Rozetia) Eddins, Thomas Eddins Jr., Larry (Nancy) Eddins,
all of Memphis, TN, Dennis and Michael Barnes of Kansas City, MO;
one brother-in-law, Garfield King Jr. of Chicago, IL; six
sisters, Emma Etienne, Mary (Cedric) Moodie, Gloria
Eddins, Peggy Catchings, Jeanice (Scott) Jenkins of
Indianapolis, IN, Rita Barnes of Kansas City, MO; seven
sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn (George) Lewis of Skokie, IL,
Vernette (Thomas) Gales of Chicago, IL, Lynn Lanier of
Harvey, IL, Dr. Shirley Montgomery (J.D. Dunn) of
Flossmoor, IL, Pamela (Edward) Howard of Maywood, IL, Rosa
Lee Williams of Chicago, IL, and Paulette (Ernest)
Williams of Grand Rapids, MI; two sons, Mark Martin Barnes of
Tyronza, Ark., and Lorenzo Barnes Jr. of Memphis, TN; two
stepsons, Pierre Williams and Melvin (Angelina) Bridges
Jr. of Matteson, IL; one daughter, Sharon Mays; and a host
of grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces,
great-nephews, cousins and friends. Two brothers preceded Lorenzo
in death, Robert Barnes and Woodrow (Buddy) J. Hyde Jr.,
and his stepfather, Thomas Eddins Sr., also preceded him in
death.
Services for Mr. Lorenzo Barnes will be held
on Thursday, June 19, 2008, in the Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home
Inc., 2702 Lincoln Way West, South Bend, IN. Visitation will
begin at 11:00 a.m.; funeral service will begin at noon. Burial
will be held on Friday, June 20, 2008, at the National Veteran
Cemetery, Marion, IN, at noon.
