SOUTH BEND - Rosemary C. Barncord, 83, died Sunday, October 11th,
in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Rosemary was born May 6, 1926,
in Altoona, PA, to the late Frank and Jessie (Montrella) Ferrone.
On June 15, 1946, she wed Henry "Barney" Barncord, with
whom she had shared 60 years of marriage before his death in
2007. Surviving are a daughter, Kay (Richard) Hendrix of Moreno
Valley, CA; a son, David (Kim) Barncord of Granger;
granddaughters, Kristin, Whitney and Anna Barncord; brothers,
Francis (Roz) Ferrone of Canton, MI, and John (Kathleen) Ferrone
of South Bend; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death
by a sister, Dolores Moon, and a brother, Leonard
"Sonny" Ferrone. Growing up near Cumberland, MD, in a
house filled with music, Rosemary, Sonny and Dolores comprised a
jazz combo in the 40s known as The Ferrone Trio, and could
be heard on local radio playing the hits of the day. Rosemary and
Barney moved to South Bend in 1951, and she began work as a
secretary at Uniroyal where she stayed for 35 years until her
retirement. Following retirement she was a longtime volunteer at
Memorial Hospital, and enjoyed staying active and in touch with
friends and former coworkers at social gatherings and bowling
leagues. She could always be found at one of her granddaughters'
events, be it a ballgame, concert or play, and she and Barney
enjoyed many road trips from coast to coast. Rosemary raised her
family in the church at Christ the King Catholic. She loved the
warmth and camaraderie of family and friends, and her occasional
case of uncontrollable giggles where one of the things that made
her a bright light in their lives. It was second nature for her
to put the needs of others ahead of her own, and she could always
be counted on to help a friend who was ailing or in distress.
Rosemary was a devoted and loving wife, a caring mom, a proud
"Grandma Rose" to her granddaughters, and beloved
"Aunt Rosie" to the rest of her family. Her presence in
the lives of those she touched will remain a treasured memory,
and she will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held
at noon on Saturday, Oct. 17th, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral
Home, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Guests may arrive
beginning at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a
contribution to Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 S.R. 933,
South Bend, IN 46637, in honor of Rosemary. Family and friends
may leave e-mail condolences at welshfh@yahoo.com.
