SOUTH BEND - Mary Ann Barkley, 70, of Parkview Place, died at 4 a.m. Sunday in her home. Mrs. Barkley retired in 1986 after 25 years of service as a secretary for United Steelworkers of America.

She was born Feb. 13, 1925, in South Bend. On April 27, 1942, in Utica, N.Y., as Mary Ann Broughton, she married George R. Barkley. He died June 9, 1982.

She is survived by three sons, George R. Jr. of South Bend, Gregory P. of Granger and Scott M. of Cincinnati; five grandchildren; and a sister, Kathryn Coleman of South Bend. She was a member of United Steelworkers Local 3657, Pittsburgh, and Corpus Christi Catholic Church.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesdsay in Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m.
