MISHAWAKA - Richard E. Barden, 79, of Mishawaka, died at
6:45 P.M. Sunday, June 29, 2008, at his daughter's home in
Mishawaka. Richard was born January 16, 1929, in South Bend, to
the late Samuel and Verona (Faylor) Barden.
On October 5, 1952, in Kewanna, he married
Mary "Kate" Stingley, she preceded him in death
on December 31, 2003. Surviving Richard are his three daughters,
Ruth Nelson and Donna Barden, both of Elkhart, and Nancy
(Curtis) Fritz of Mishawaka; two sons, Edward (Nancy)
Barden of Osceola and Michael (Debra) Barden of Elkhart; eight
grandchildren, Christopher Nelson, Jennifer Slabaugh,
Sissy Schirripa, Lisa Heckman, Lucas Fritz,
Brittney Fritz, Dakota Barden and Nichole Barden; and six
great-grandchildren, Dylan Bailey, Emma Hanyzewski,
Audrey Overmyer, Taylor Slabaugh, Nicole Slabaugh and
Tyler Schirripa. Also surviving are one sister, Betty Hall
of Huntington Beach, CA, and two brothers, Lloyd (Beverly) Barden
of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Robert (Rachel) Barden of Goshen, IN.
Richard was a lifetime resident of the area. He worked in
maintenance as a supervisor with Robertson's Department Store for
38 years until it closed in 1986. He then worked at Goldblatt's
for four more years until finally retiring in 1990. He was a
veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving his country
during the Korean War, was a member of Coalbush United Methodist
Church, and was a past member of the Marine Corps League.
Friends and family may call Thursday, July
3rd, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W.
8th St., Mishawaka, and one hour prior to services at the church.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 5th, at 1:00 PM
in Coalbush United Methodist Church, 15977 Jackson Road in
Mishawaka, with the Reverend Jim Davidson officiating. Burial
will be at Southlawn Cemetery in South Bend. Contributions in
Richard's name may be made to Coalbush United Methodist Church.
