John S. Barber
Dec. 12, 1918 - March 21, 2001
John S. Barber, 82, of Jackson, Mich., formerly of Mishawaka, Ind., and Phoenix, Ariz., passed away following an illness on Wednesday, March 21, at home.
He was born Dec. 12, 1918, in Plymouth, Ind., to Fred and Edith Barber, who preceded him in death. On Nov. 12, 1935, he married the former Evelyn C. Hamlin in Mishawaka. She passed away in 1994.
Mr. Barber is survived by two daughters, Beverly Sayles of Concord, Mich., and Shirley Ice of Mishawaka. Also surviving is a son, Robert J. Barber of Mishawaka. He is survived by eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A sister, Wanita Burley, and one brother, Richard Barber of Las Vegas, Nev.
Mr. Barber was a volunteer firemen at Penn South Fire Department, and retired from Dodge Manufacturing in Mishawaka after 41 years as a locksmith/machinist. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #130, Mishawaka, past president of the Dodge Athletic Association, past president of Taper Lock Credit Union, and was also a World War II veteran.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 North Main Street, Mishawaka, where friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will follow the services Monday at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind.
