SOUTH BEND - Ernest J. Barany, 82, passed away at 4:45
a.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center,
South Bend. He owned and operated two businesses most of his
life: E. J. Barany Guttering for 54 years, and was the former
owner of the Wooden Keg Restaurant, South Bend. He was born March
19, 1925, in South Bend, to Andrew and Anna (Abraham)
Barany, and was a lifelong resident.
On November 6, 1948, in South Bend, he
married Joan E. (Bates) Barany, who passed away on
December 16, 1997. Mr. Barany is survived by his two daughters,
Diane Perry of Baltimore, MD, and Donna (Gary Riggs)
Barany of South Bend; his son, Ernest J. (Kim) Barany Jr. of Las
Cruces, NM; five grandchildren, Edward and Chris Perry, Megan Willeman,
Alyssa Riggs and Seth Barany; two sisters, Anne Monserez
of South Bend, and Mary Birder of DePere, WI; and a
brother, Emery Barany of South Bend. An infant sister, Anna
Barany, and two brothers, Andrew and John Barany, preceded him in
death. Mr. Barany was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church.
He served in the United States Army during World War II. Mr.
Barany devoted his life to business and family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10
a.m. Thursday, February 7, 2008, in Little Flower Catholic
Church, 54191 N. Ironwood, South Bend. Rev. Donald F. Guertin,
C.S.C., will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4 to
8 p.m. today in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528
