Max G. Barack, 90, of South Bend, Ind., died Thursday, March 29, in Tanglewood Trace Retirement Center. Max was born in Russia on April 15, 1910, to Philip and Etta (Cohen) Barack who preceded their son in death. Also preceding Max in death are two sons, Dr. Leonard Barack in 1981, and Leslie Barack in 1943; his two brothers, Rabbi Nathan Barack in 1999, and Fred Barack in 1965; and his daughter-in-law, Susan B. Barack in 2000.
On Aug. 25, 1939, in Chicago he married the former Regina Katz who survives. Also surviving is their son, Alan J. Barack of McHenry, Ill.; two grandchildren, Philip (Ruann) Tyson Barack of McHenry and Marcy Elizabeth Barack of McHenry; and a brother, Harry Barack of Skokie, Ill. Mr. Barack for many years was a teacher for South Bend Community School corporation. He was a member of Sinai Synagogue and the Hebrew Orthodox Congregations here in South Bend. And for many years was the religious leader of the Jewish Temple in Elkhart, Ind.
Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 1, in Sinai Synagogue. Burial will follow at the Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery. Rabbi Michael Friedland of Sinai Synagogue is officiating. There will be no visitation. Forest G. Hay Funeral Home is in charge of Mr. Barack's arrangements.
