Sister Mary Marclian CSC, 85, of Saint Mary’s Convent, died at 5:10 p.m. Wednesday in the convent following a lengthy illness. She was born Feb. 16, 1897 as Beatrice Bannin in Effingham, Ill., and entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross at St. Mary’s on June 27, 1921, coming from Danville, Ill.  On Jan. 6 1922 she was received as a novice and made her first profession of vows on Aug. 15, 1924. She was assigned to teaching in secondary schools throughout her community life, serving at South Bend’s St. Mary’s Academy and St. Joseph High School. She also taught at Bishop Noll High School in Hammond, Holy Angels Academy in Logansport, and Illinois schools in Woodstock, Morris and Danville. In 1966 she moved to Our Lady of Holy Cross Convent where she resided until 1972, when she moved to St. Mary’s Convent.

 

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Loretto Church and burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, both at St. Mary’s. Friends may call until services in the convent parlors where a rosary will be recited at 2:45 today and a wake service at 7 p.m. today.
