NORTH LIBERTY - George Banner Sr., 79, of Inwood Road, died at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday in his home after an illness. Mr. Banner retired from Ray DeMott Construction Co. He was born Nov. 9, 1914, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident.

In 1945, he married Margaret Cowan. She survives with three sons, George Banner Jr. of Niles, Robert Cowan of Kansas City, Mo., and William Cowan of North Liberty; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jim of South Bend. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 39, Indiana Sheriff's Association, and was a veteran of World War II.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph Funeral Home, South Bend. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and two hours before services Friday in the funeral home.
