Alice Balough

Alice Balough, 82, a lifelong
resident of South Bend, passed away at 7:40 a.m. on March 9,
following an illness during an extended stay at Saint Joseph
Regional Medical Center, South Bend.
Alice was born July 23, 1918, in South Bend,
IN, to Julia Robak and Walter Robak, who preceded her in
death. She was also preceded in death by an older brother,
Sigmund Robak. Surviving are two younger sisters, Mary Burns
and Genevieve Boulanger, both of Mishawaka.
On June 11, 1960, she married James J.
Balough of South Bend, who survives. Alice is survived by five
daughters, Patricia Bendickson of Dixon, Ill., (Bert) Sr.,
who have three children, Bert Bendickson Jr., Julia Lottman
and Judy Hiners. Virginia Mell of South Bend,
(Robert) who have four children, Robert Mell Jr., Dawn Young,
Mandy Godette and Rhonda Mell. Betty J. Reed of
Mishawaka, who has two children, Jami Reed and Loralee Reed.
Sister Janice Kolesiak of Griffith, IN, who is of the
Sisters of St. Francis of Mishawaka, and Sandra M. Baldwin
of South Bend, (Gary), who has one child, Joelle Imus.
Alice is also survived by fifteen great-grandchildren and six
great-great-grandchildren. She also has many nieces and nephews.
Alice, in her younger years, worked for the
Star Store and Ball Band (old Uniroyal). For most of her life she
was a successful homemaker and a loving mother, wife,
grandmother, sister, aunt, Godmother and friend. She was loved
dearly by all those that knew her and will never be forgotten.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m.
Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at Holy Family Catholic Church, where
friends may call one hour before. Burial will be in the Sacred
Heart Cemetery. ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., is
handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the
