Mary Anne Balog, 74, of Clay Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away following an illness at 8:20 p.m. Saturday, May 25, in Saint Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka. She was born Nov. 9, 1927, in South Bend, Ind., to John and Veronica Durskey, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son, Robert Balog of South Bend; and by her four grandchildren, Tori Balog, Jeremiah Balog and Aaron Balog, all of South Bend, and Cassandra Balog of Michigan. She was one of 12 children. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Durskey and Richard Durskey; and by a sister, Dorothy Riley. Her surviving brothers and sisters are Dolores Woltman, Elsie Leyba, Geraldine Hoffman, Maxine Sroda and Shirley Nagy, all of South Bend, and Elizabeth Swirnow of Las Vegas, Nev., Ronald Durskey of Mishawaka and Raymond Durskey of South Bend. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Melanie Workman of Mishawaka and Austin Balog of South Bend; and by several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Dylan Elam.
Mary was an avid Notre Dame fan and attended many of the football games there. She was a production worker at Package Corporation of America, and then was a custodian at Notre Dame University for 27 years until her retirement in 2001.
Funeral services for Mrs. Balog will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 North Main Street, Mishawaka, where friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. today.
Burial will follow the services Wednesday at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame, Ind.
